NGO and charity committed to reducing injury in sport

The Podium Analytics Institute for Youth Sports Medicine and Technology at the University of Oxford

We’ve established, in partnership with the University of Oxford, a first-of-its-kind research programme.

The Podium Analytics Institute for Youth Sports Medicine at the University of Oxford represents an ambitious long-term partnership and the coming together of leaders across sport, science, academia, technology, and business to spearhead a new approach to the issue of sports-related injury in young people.

Together with world-leading academics, the Institute will address an under-researched and often overlooked issue in sport, driving pioneering research and science in youth sports health and working to provide a holistic understanding of the individual factors that lead to injury in youth sports. Its purpose is to inspire and forge evidence-based changes in sport and physical education, and to develop innovative technologies to monitor, analyse and ultimately prevent injury in sport.

Drawing on truly multi-disciplinary expertise, through the blending of Biomedical Engineering, Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine, Psychology, Clinical Neurosciences, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Analytics, the initial work of the Institute will focus on traumatic injuries such as concussion and serious musculoskeletal injuries as well as sudden cardiac death and the psychological factors that lead to injury.

LOCATION

The Institute will be located at the foremost biomedical research campus in the UK on the Old Road Campus of the University of Oxford. It will form part of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering but will call upon the cross-disciplinary expertise of several departments right across the University, in an open innovation environment.
