Reflecting on UKCCIIS 2026: Progress, partnership and what comes next

  • As headline supporter of the 2nd International Conference on Injury and Illness Prevention in Sport at the University of Bath, Podium Analytics was proud to join researchers, practitioners and leaders from across the world at the University of Bath for two days of discussion, debate and collaboration.

The central aim of the conference is to ‘foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration across disciplines to strengthen the translation of research into practice’. Through an impressive schedule of keynote sessions, panels, oral presentations and posters, the conference showcased the progress being made across sports injury prevention, and the passion that is shaping a more positive future for athletes across sport.

Reflecting on the event, Podium’s CEO Andy Hunt spoke about how far the field has come in recent years.

  • ““We are in a much stronger place than we have ever been in understanding why and how injuries happen, what can be done to prevent them, and the important nuances around sport, gender and age.””
  • Just as encouraging was the shared commitment to ensuring this evidence informs practice and improves outcomes for participants at all levels of sport.

The conversations throughout the conference reinforced an important reality and a key theme that will underpin our ongoing success: meaningful progress is collective

Ensuring evidence continually informs practice, at scale and across diverse settings, remains a shared challenge. The advance of athlete health, safer sporting environments and embedding best practice requires collaboration across researchers, practitioners, governing bodies and funders.

We left Bath inspired by the momentum across the field and optimistic about what can be achieved through continued partnership. We look forward to building on the ideas, relationships and collaborations that emerged over the last two days and playing our part in turning evidence into action.
