  • ““Here at Charnwood, we are committed to giving every student attending our academy a world-class education. This includes providing an excellent range of sporting opportunities for all our students, whether they are competitive athletes or simply enjoy participating in sports. Our range of sporting facilities include our state of the art basketball courts, newly-renovated netball courts and MUGA, 3G Football Pitch, grass football pitches, an athlete-only gym and a rowing studio. Our expert coaches, many of whom separately train the top athletes in the country, are on-hand to deliver world-class sports leadership. We are incredibly proud of our sporting offer here at Charnwood, and we strive to ensure that we are the ultimate combined academic and sporting destination for students in Loughborough.””

We are committed to giving every student attending our academy a world-class education. We provide our young people with rich opportunities to ensure they become their academic best, are ambitious, aspirational, courageous and respectful in their daily lives.

Sport is an integral part of life at Charnwood College. The importance of sport at our school encompasses more than just the benefits of physical activity. It increases self-esteem, highlights the importance of teamwork and engages and motivates young people.

Charnwood College is arguably the best basketball institute in the country winning six national titles and world titles in both boys and girls categories. The School has a unique partnership with the Riders Basketball professional club, which allows sixth form students to not only gain a Level 3 Diploma in Basketball but to have up to 16 hours training per week, alongside strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, diet and nutritional support.

The academy also offers an elite player pathway in football and netball within the sixth form. We regularly send students from all three of our elite programmes on to prestigious sporting universities in the UK, US and Europe.

As part of the David Ross Education Trust, we compete at our Trust wide events including the Winter, Summer and Spring Cups each year, have students selected for the Trust All Star teams and run a sports leadership programme. Our trust-wide emphasis on sport offers Charnwood students the kinds of opportunities usually only found at private schools.

  • ““We deliver a broad and balanced PE curriculum which aims at improving the life chances, physical, mental, social and emotional health of all of our students. The activities that we offer give students the opportunity to develop their health through individual games such as badminton, and table tennis, and compete in team games including rugby, football, netball and hockey. We are also extremely focused on promoting personal resilience, which we believe is one of the best aspects of our sporting provision. Our students are excellent at balancing their sporting and academic commitments, and neither comes at the expense of the other. We see sport as part of the fabric of life here at Charnwood, and with the support of the college, students and athletes of every calibre go on to do great things when they leave us. We’re proud to host a Sixth Form Performance programme in Basketball with Leicester Riders, alongside a Sixth Form programme in Football and Netball. From which we have seen scholars progress to America or professional careers in their sport.””
